Passing of Arnold Wechsler
ATOA marks the passing of a former board of director’s member, the artist Arnold Wechsler, who died on June 16th at in Miami, Florida, aged 87.
Aside from his art, Wechsler was well-known for his founding, with Renee Meyer and the late Warren Tanner of the Organization of Independent Artists (OIA) the seminal art in public spaces group started in 1976. A peripatetic traveler, Wechsler attended Burning Man annually and was constantly on the go, worldwide, until he became ill a few years ago.
Arnold studied at the School of Visual Arts and received a Masters in Fine Arts in painting from Columbia University. He has been a part of the New York art scene for over fifty years and lived in the Westbeth Artists Community since its inception in 1968. His work has been exhibited throughout the world including in New York, Washington DC, Miami, Denver, Mexico City, Madrid, Paris, Moscow and St. Petersburg.
We are grateful to Arnold for his years of service to ATOA.
